The shrimp is born as a male, and at approximately 2 1/2 years old the shrimp transforms into a female over several months. Then as that happens the eggs get spawn in late summer-fall, then the females carry the eggs to 10 months, and eggs hatch in the spring. If they are living in the gulf of Maine then they rarely migrate out. The younger shrimp stay in the gulf of Maine until they are approximately one year old, they stay there until they are juveniles.
